Dual Display for EBooks

Posted by admin on Sep 21, 2009 in e-learning

Ebooks are books in an electronic form but a lot different in the way the presentation is done to the reader.

Just as you would read a book by earmarking pages, flipping pages refering back to text, etc so can you do the same on dual displays for ebooks.

The latest ebook was developed by researchers at Maryland and Berkeley Universities.

Uses

Unlike conventional reading of paperbacks, magazine, periodicals, etc, ebooks are a totally new concept added to the meaning of reading. In addition they allow you to scroll to different pages unlike flipping through a book or even call up on research data needed for a topic for the book.

Advantages

Where physical reading allows one to flip a page or fold the book, the device allows readers to turn pages by interaction or close book movements of one face toward the other, and, in the folded posture by flipping the device over. Users can also fold one face behind the other, which provides an alternative, more compact form . When the displays are detached, multiple documents (eg. literature and thesaurus, literature and map, etc) can be viewed simultaneously. In such a setting, users can arrange the displays in convenient positions as required.. Read more…

Effects of E learning

Posted by admin on Sep 9, 2009 in e-learning

Effects of E learning
“Successful organizations understand that investing in workplace learning and performance is the key to a highly skilled workforce,” said Tony Bingham, president and CEO of ASTD.

Corporates investments in online learning technologies are paying off through cost savings and efficiency gains as e-learning reaches a high level of complexity.

A good example
Cisco Systems created an innovative training program called E-Service Training (EST), which makes the most of the potential of Internet capabilities and technologies. The objective of the EST program is to ensure that Field Engineers are ready to repair and maintain new merchandise as soon as they’re released to consumers. Owing to the speedy nature of new product deployment, the growing number of products, and the global location of consumers, training all of the FEs in time becomes very complicated.

The E-Service Training program changed the conduct of both the people who created training, as well as those who received it. Training developers were used to to using a very ordered process to create training for a classroom setting. In the course of developing the E-Service Training content, trainer had to learn how to create material on an array of file formats other than PowerPoint®. Devices such as HTML editors, image editors, and multimedia applications are now incorporated in the toolbox for trainers. Trainers realize that content development is not just about slides, but about creating training that was appealing, educational, and fun. Read more…

Make the Most of Existing Tools

Posted by admin on Aug 3, 2009 in e-learning

The students who began college this year have been dubbed the first “Net Generation,” because they habitually seek, receive, and even expect information to reach them over Web services like Twitter, Facebook, Google, and YouTube. Soon, they will join our world’s “movers and shakers,” but they are already so wired into the Web that (according to Beloit College’s “Mindset List” ® for 2009), before arriving on campus, they had checked out their roommates on Facebook, “…where they have shared their most personal thoughts with the whole world.”

This is the first of many future college classes that:

Drink electronic media like water, and breathe broadband communications like air.

  • Will expect us to deliver e-Learning content over the Web channels where they “live.”
  • Will require highly interactive, graphic, and “engaging” training materials.
  • Won’t allow themselves to remain bored by training that doesn’t grab and hold their interest.

This implies a lot for the e-Learning community. But it doesn’t mean that we must abandon the way we create and deliver e-Learning today. In fact, you may already possess all the tools you need, to start producing more interactive and engaging e-Learning materials immediately. If you haven’t yet tried the following technologies and techniques, now might be a good time to start! Read more…
